Today I Wear My Widow’s Mite

I was given this gift of a “Widow’s Mite” necklace a few years ago. It is an ancient artifact dating back to the time of Christ. Really! It is a 2,000 year old stone…I do try to keep the baby from sucking on it…ya never know what could be on that ;) !

Israel allows the sale of it’s antiques (artifacts, really), which none of the other Mediterranean counties do, so don’t worry…I didn’t rob any museums!

What is a “Widow’s Mite”? You may recall hearing of this term before…it is referring to an old coin referenced to in the Bible.  The story of the “Widow’s Mite” is of a woman who gave all that she had to God…two mite coins.

Less than a few dollars in our currency.

“I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” (Luke 21:1-4)

I was given this necklace from the home school curriculum company we purchase from…it is a reminder of the sacrifices we give up in life for something greater.

This week was a rough week…maybe it’s just from coming off of a long relaxing weekend, but you add in an 8 year old boy and you’ve got trouble. Lots of trouble. Thankfully, when he gets into trouble he gets a “chore card” and my house gets cleaner (ok…not at first as he usually tries to make more trouble, but he gets there eventually and my house eventually gets cleaned!).

Even now…I was moping the floor, only to realize that an adorable baby needed to have a bath RIGHT AWAY (you know what I mean). Into the tub he went. Afterwards I decided to allow him to crawl around on the floor a bit to air dry…I don’t want him to get a rash in his cloth diaper on such a hot day.

Guess what…yeah…he pooped on the carpet.

Bummer. That was totally my fault…back into the tub. I do hope I get to finish moping the second half of the kitchen before lunch!

We all have days like this. And when you are seeking out ways to heal your family or yourself through whole foods, there seems to be a few more of them.

Are you weary some days? I am.

The words come to my mind,

” But he (Christ) said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness’,…That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses…for when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Let me be weak-I don’t mind letting Him be strong…or holding a sweet wet towel-wrapped baby for the second time.

And just in case no one has told you lately-YOU ARE DOING GREAT!!!

Keep going. Change in life isn’t easy, but you are paving the way for a new way of living. You are finding health. You are changing your future and the future of your children.

Find joy in creating whole, satisfying, gorgeous, delicious, life giving food.

Know that you will bless others through the way you live.

Generations will be made whole.

You are amazing.

So go—give up your best, your all, to the Lord and you will get something greater in return.

Oh, I gotta go…the toweled babe just peed on my lap. You’d think I would have learned the first time. =)
