E-mail Accountability Groups

IDEA: To use email accountability to inspire personal growth.

METHOD: Email “check-in” with group on Monday nights by answering a few questions and forwarding to group. Throughout the week send encouraging emails to group members. Get together with a group member(s) approx. every 3 week to discuss goals and struggles. Groups consist of 2-7 members in size. New groups can be formed at any time or split to create new groups.

STARTING A GROUP: Find at least one other woman who wants to be involved. Get the materials and off you go!

GUIDELINES: If you don’t “check-in” Monday night you will be emailed by your group facilitator to remind you. Nothing shared via email will be read or shared with anyone outside the group, even spouses. To ensure confidentiality, please delete your emails once read. All advice and encouragement will be shared in love.

GOAL: To experience personal growth in all areas of life. To develop authentic friendships. A group where you can be the real you. To admonish one another from becoming deceived by sin and “blind spots.” To take as little time away from our goals as possible (ie: marriage) but still ensure reaching our goals. 1st step: Print off these 5 pages from seriousmoms.com that will help you get started. 2nd step: Pray for God’s leading in setting goals. “What would please you Lord?” 3rd step: Fill out the “Personal Goal Setting” chart you will receive via email from your group facilitator. 4th step: Fill out “My Course of Action” sheet to give yourself a plan to get started. 5th step: Fill out “My Weekly Schedule” to ensure a time for every goal to be accomplished. 6th step: Monday night answer your accountability questions and send a group email to all members. 7th step: Email encouragement to other members when you can. 8th step: Get together with other members in person to talk about your life and goals. 9th step: Every 3 months, review goals and fill out new chart. 10th step: Tell other women about what God is doing in your life and encourage them to do the same!

WEEKLY QUESTIONS: 1. I was disciplined (succeeded) in what area(s) this week: 2. I was undisciplined in what area(s) this week: 3. One thing I can start doing to experience more success: 4. One thing I need to stop doing to experience success: 5. Pray for this area of my life:

Optional: 6. I feel stuck in this area __________________and I need some advice or extra encouragement from the group. Here is my dilemma:

Scriptures of Action

“Prepare your minds for action.”

1 Peter 1:13

“She sets about her work vigorously

Proverbs 31:17

“She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”

Proverbs 31:27

“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.”

1 Peter 1:13

But the woman who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this,

not forgetting what she has heard, but doing it– she will be blessed in what she does.”

James 1:25

Train yourself to be godly...godliness has value for all things.”

I Timothy 4:7-8

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Galatians 6:9

“Make a careful exploration of who you are ad the work you have been given, and sink yourself into that.

Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others.

Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.”

Galatians 6:1-5

“I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got.

No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition.”

I Corinthians 9:26

“I want you to get out there and walk– better yet, run! - on the road God called you to travel.

I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere.

….You were called to travel on the same road and in the same direction so stay together.”

Ephesians 4: 1-3

I have not read this book yet, but it is on my list. Right after it was published, my husband and I got to go hear Brian McLaren speak at a church in Portland. We loved the stuff he was talking about--challenging!!  I recommend this book solely based on how impressed I was with his subject matter & his speaking.
