Modesty

I have this subject in 2 sections on this site: Parenting, and Christianity. I think it deserves a lot of web-time, if you will...I don't pretend to know everything, nor will I on this subject.  But I will tell you that I feel very strongly that modesty is a subject that is taken far too lightly in our culture, even among believers.  I know that some say it is a "cultural" thing.  Maybe so, I am not going to pretend to know all of the answers--I don't know Greek, or Hebrew, and I can't specifically point out Scripture that will solidify my stance here.  But I will say that as long as there has been man, there has been a struggle with man's eyes looking at a woman's body.  Every single man on this earth struggles in this area to some degree.  Most men don't talk about this, but it's true.  I can point you to so many sources, if you want them.  For 1, try "The Sexual Man" by Archibald Hunt.

Knowing that my brothers in Christ and the unbelieving men in my life are struggling in this area, how can I possibly dress in a way that would draw their eyes to my body?  I cannot, in good conscience!  And ladies, I hope that you will consider this also.

Knowing that my little girl will someday grow up and want to dress like mommy, and that my little boys will one day be men who will grow up to struggle just like every other man on this earth, I cannot and will not dress in a way that exposes my body.

I know that there are so many excuses out there: "but I feel prettier when I wear these things," etc....I just highly suggest that we all think about others and their struggles before we think about our own "rights."  Sure, we might have the "right" to dress however we want, but what else should we consider when we approach our closet every morning?

This is the coolest resource! It's a chart of behaviors, and Scripture references to go along with each behavior.

This is one of the best parenting books out there. I highly recommend this one.
