Gardening

Some great resources:

Gardening Books A list of some of my favorite gardening books, with notes about them.

Herbal Remedy Chart  I found this page to be super interesting.  For anyone who grows medicinal herbs in their garden, this is a fun resource to look at.

Herbal Recipes This will show you what to do with those herbs you're growing!

A List of Edible Flowers  I found this to be an interesting resource--I had no idea that some of these flowers were edible!  Be careful before you eat flowers--look at a site like this to make sure you are getting the right variety.

The Plant Press Encyclopedia  This Plant Encyclopedia is very useful, because you can search for plants by name.

The Old Farmer's Almanac  If you want to determine when your first and last frost dates are, check out this site!

Some useful sites & articles:

Old Fashioned Living-The Garden Path  This site has many great articles about growing different types of culinary and medicinal herbs, and how to use them.

Citrus Trees If you're interested in growing a Meier Lemon tree indoors, this is a good site to look at!

KidsGarden  This site has articles, activities, and ideas about gardening with kids.

Where to Purchase Seeds:

Personally, I prefer purchasing organic seeds.  The way I see it, this is the cheapest way available to feed my family organic produce.  But remember, if you're truly going to go organic, your soil, compost, fertilizers, and other chemicals you use in your yard have to be organic.  The soap you wash your car with, the cleaner you use on the outside of your windows, and the chemical that you use to get rid of ants in the fall--it can all seep into your garden, thus making your organic seeds pointless.

Gardens Alive!  This site sells products and seeds that are labeled "environmentally responsible."  They have a huge selection, with over 2000 items to choose from!

Seeds of Change  I bought some of my seeds through this site last year, and was really impressed with the quality and service.

Bountiful Gardens  I purchased the rest of my seeds through this site last year.  The company's site and seed packets are not as colorful as some of the others, but the seeds are good quality, and the prices are cheaper.  I was able to purchase seeds in smaller packages than some other sites offer, which I appreciated.  Who really needs 300 lettuce seeds anyways?

Horizon Herbs If you're looking for medicinal herbs, this is a good place to shop!

This is my very favorite book about homekeeping! It is a huge resource with SO much information!

What a fun manual of safe & simple ways to clean your home! It's also water and stain resistant.

I love this book! So many great recipes and skills to learn!
