Movies

See some great titles in the Serious Moms Store!

Screen-It  This is the most comprehensive movie review site I have found.  They categorize every detail of the movie "Sex & Nudity," "Violence," etc., and give you a bullet point list of everything offensive in the movie.  We ALWAYS look at this site before viewing a movie.  I will warn you though, that sometimes there are advertisements that are not appropriate (strange, huh?) on the free version--so I recommend looking at it yourself instead of having your husband look it up....Also, to get to the free part (instead of paying for a membership), just scroll down and click on "No Thanks."  This is not a Christian site, but it is VERY informative and useful.

Christian Spotlight on the Movies  This site is also very good, and we tend to view this one if we can't find the movie on Screen-It.  This site tends to have a lot of the older movies (that seem to be cleaner!) that many of the newer sites don't have.

Parent Previews This site's tagline is "Helping Families Find Entertainment with Values."  They focus on movies, music and games.

Plugged In Online  "Plugged In is a Focus on the Family publication designed to help equip parents, youth leaders, ministers and teens with the essential tools that will enable them to understand, navigate and impact the culture in which they live.  Entertainment is a potent influence on our culture for both good and evil. Through our reviews and discussions of that entertainment, we hope to spark intellectual thought, family discussion, spiritual growth and a strong desire to follow the command of Colossians 2:8. "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ." "

Internet Movie Database If you want to find out basic information about a movie or an actor, this is the site to go to.  I don't recommend children or husbands looking at this site, as there are some inappropriate photos.

All Media Guide  This is a secular website that contains all of the information you could possibly ever want to know about particular movies, games and music.  If you're putting together any kind of fun quizzes for a party, this would be the site to check out.  It is similar to the Internet Movie Database, but this site does not bombard you with huge pictures of barely dressed celebrities.  There are small pictures of movie and CD covers, however, so be careful and do not allow your children to search through this site.

Music

See the music I recommend at the Serious Moms Store.

TV

Little House on the Prairie Page Reviews, products, websites & more!  For all of you who grew up on LHOP like me. :)

I've Been Missing TV This is an article I wrote when we were not watching TV at all.  We now watch 2 shows on TV, and we use rabbit ears to get those channels.  We don't keep a TV in our main living area, it's upstairs in our bonus room (and 1 in our room). TV is not a huge part of our life, and we seriously only limit ourselves to those 2 shows, and nothing else.  I don't judge people who watch TV.  My point in this article was only to say that there's so much more to life than TV.  In our culture, it is not uncommon for a family to keep the TV going most of the day--and the TV takes the place of so many other good things.

This is my very favorite book about homekeeping! It is a huge resource with SO much information!

What a fun manual of safe & simple ways to clean your home! It's also water and stain resistant.

I love this book! So many great recipes and skills to learn!
