Freezing Foods aka "Once a Month Cooking"

I love having food in the freezer! There are places you can go to make frozen foods to bring home--but I don't recommend those kinds of places because they are too expensive (calculate how much you are spending per casserole dish vs. if you made it at home).  The nice thing about "Once a Month Cooking" is that you can buy some foods in bulk, which translates to cheaper per pound or per ounce pricing.  If you can, plan it with a friend.  I highly recommend the software program that you can purchase at 30 Day Gourmet (see below).

  • 30 Day Gourmet  The ladies who created this site have also written a few books (which is how I came across their website) about cooking freezer meals.  This website outlines how to cook meals for the freezer, what the benefits are, etc.  They've also created a software program specifically for those of you who would like to cook only once per month & they have a free trial on their site.  It is a VERY USEFUL program (I think it saved me a TON of time by calculating things I would have had to calculate myself), but it is a little clunky to use.  As my husband would say, the "UI" (User Interface) is not very good.  But it works well, so check it out!

This is the most educational cookbook I have ever seen, and the only one I've ever read like a chapter book. It is packed with information, and it will challenge your way of thinking about food!

Haven't tried making freezer meals yet? This book is a great tool to start with!
