Greetings! I have
so missed working on
this website
lately! I've come
up with so many
bazillion ideas for
this site, I just
wish I had more time
to focus on it. I
bet life is crazy in
your home too, huh?
Here's what's up in
mine:
-
We moved! Last
weekend we had
friends & family
over helping us
move our things
to our new
(temporary)
house. The
house we are
buying will not
be built until
February or
March, so we are
renting a duplex
that is about 5
minutes away
from our future
house. Moving
is so much work,
so we dread
doing it
twice--but it'll
be worth it in
the end. The
place we are
living in is
actually
slightly bigger
than our
previous
house--so it's
working out
nicely. We've
also got a big
backyard, and
it's a flat
neighborhood, so
I don't have to
walk up huge
hills with the
heavy double
stroller when I
take the kids on
a walk!
-
We've been
checking out
churches in this
area for a few
weeks now. This
last Sunday we
went to 3
different
churches!
(early service,
late service,
and evening
service). That
was a tiring
day! Hopefully
God will make it
clear to us soon
which church we
should be
attending. It's
neat to meet
other believers
in all different
styles of
churches. This
is an exciting
journey!
-
I started my
first REAL
homeschooling
year just about
a week before we
moved. It's
been slightly
interrupted/adjusted
for the move,
but we're still
chugging along.
Right now our
topic is "Me,
Myself and I,"
and the kids are
learning about
their bodies and
that God made
them. We're
learning
vocabulary words
like "eye
lashes," "eye
brows," "ear
lobe," etc.
We're reading
books from the
library,
practicing our
letter sounds,
memorizing
Scripture, and
learning a new
"habit" and a
new Japanese
word each week.
It's fun, but
tough at the
same time. Our
kids are still
pretty young
(almost 4, 2 1/2
and almost 2),
so it is hard to
keep their
attention. I
try to make
learning more
active for them,
and I try to
just do the sit
down learning at
breakfast &
lunch time. Any
tips would be
much
appreciated!!
-
Isaac (our
almost 4 year
old) had his
tonsils taken
out in late
August, and he
is doing SO
well!! He has
gained a ton of
weight, he's
healthier, he's
happier, more
energetic,
sleeping better,
and eating
better. We are
pleased with his
progress!!
-
With all change,
there seems to
be some positive
and some
negative. With
Isaac having
more energy,
he's also
exhibiting a
stronger will,
and showing some
defiance. He's
draining down my
energy lately,
just dealing
with his will
and his desire
to do everything
independently.
("No Isaac, you
can't pour the
milk by
yourself, please
don't get it out
of the
refrigerator
anymore.") I
want to train
him to be
competent and
confident that
he can do things
on his own, but
at this stage in
his life, I
believe it is
most important
that he learn
obedience and
respect for
authority. I
think the
biggest struggle
most adults have
is the ability
to put their own
selfish desires
aside for the
sake of anybody
else--most
people have no
problem
believing they
can do things on
their own. We
are such an
individualistic
society, nobody
believes "it
takes a village"
anymore, and
nobody
(especially kids
these days)
wants to submit
to authority.
Raising kids is
a HUGE job,
because, at
least it's our
goal, to raise
kids who do
submit to
authority, who
do respect other
people and who
do put others
before
themselves. And
yet to have that
confidence that
they can do all
things through
Christ, who
gives them
strength
(Philippians
4:13). I'm just
thankful I have
a God who gives
ME that same
strength in my
role as their
mom!!
-
And with the
move, there
comes some
sadness. We are
45 minutes away
from the church
we've gone to
for the past 4
years. We will
be thankful to
find a smaller
church community
to be a part of
(our previous
church was very
large!), but we
have so many
friends at our
old church. We
went out to eat
with some of our
friends (who we
now live 1 hour
away from!) last
night, and we
also went and
signed papers on
our old house,
and looked
through it for
the last time.
It made me cry.
I feel peace
that God has us
here--I know
He's got a
future ahead of
us that we
cannot foresee.
But it's still
sad at the same
time.
I think that's about
all that's
happening. Life is
full and good--I
hope yours is too!
